Idiopathic scoliosis is a sideways spinal curve with rotation for which no single cause is identified. It is commonly recognised during growth. Uneven shoulders or waist contours can prompt assessment, but posture or appearance alone cannot measure a curve.

Symptoms and reasons to seek assessment

A clinician considers growth stage, examination and appropriate standing X-rays. The size of the curve and how much growth remains help estimate the need for observation or treatment. Back pain in a young person should still be assessed on its own merits rather than automatically attributed to scoliosis.

Assessment and treatment considerations

Management may involve observation, bracing in selected growing patients or surgery for particular curves. General exercise can support health but does not replace a plan for monitoring progression. Ask how often follow-up is needed and what change would alter the recommendation.

Prepare for an assessment in Matamoros

Bring available studies and reports, a list of medications and a short account of how symptoms affect your daily life. Write down what you would like treatment to improve. Ask which findings explain the concern, what options are reasonable and when progress should be reviewed.
